Join us on team Be The Match!

We have adopted a Be The Match drive throughout Ohio as the statewide community health project for the 2011-2012 academic school year. As we work to implement this project throughout Ohio, we would like for you to join our team! Please see the contact information below for additional information on this project.

What is 'Be The Match'?

Be The Match is a national marrow donor program that provides hope and support to the patients and their families in need of life-saving transplants. As a community, we have the power to save the lives of many, simply by joining the registry! For more information on Be The Match go to: http://marrow.org/Home.aspx

Issues:

Finding a match for an individual in need of bone marrow is extremely difficult. On average, the chance of finding the perfect match is approximately 1 out of every million. Many individuals are in need of bone marrow to save their life.

Purpose:

By expanding the registry, the chances of finding a match for an individual in need of bone marrow increases. As students, we have the ability to make a difference simply by joining the registry.

Goal:

The goal of this statewide community health project is to expand the bone marrow donor registry of Be The Match in hopes of saving more lives by implementing Be The Match drives throughout schools in the state of Ohio.

Process:

To start a drive at your school, you must follow these 3 simple steps:
  1. Select a date and time told hold the drive at your school.
  2. Promote your drive by posting flyers around campus and informing individuals on Be The Match. Fundraising may also be done during this time in order to raise money for the drive.
  3. On the day of your drive, a Be The Match representative with be involved in most of the work. The job of the students is to complete the consent form for the registry and perform a simple cheek swab, which will be used for typing (in hopes of finding a match).

*Be The Match asks that students donate around $10-$15 per testing to cover the fees for typing .
